IDEA LAB PRODUCT RENDERINGS
SUMMARY:
As a graduate student, I worked with the IDEA lab–an interdisciplinary design and prototyping studio within the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering–to develop over 40 product illustrations and renderings (digital and pencil) to advance product development initiatives, brainstorm with clients, and for documentation purposes. I completed this work as an independent study I created in partnership with IDEA Lab leadership.
SKILLS USED:
-
Digital illustration, product rendering, and product visualization using the Procreate App with the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil
TIME INVOLVED:
-
May 2025 - August 2025

OnePass Epidural Needle Renderings & Illustrations
The main project I contributed on during my independent study with IDEA lab was their OnePass epidural needle prototype, a novel device that allows two spinal cord stimulator leads to be inserted sequentially through a single introducer. There were three different versions of the OnePass system that involved different ways of engaging the cannulas and stylets. These different systems were dubbed: OnePass Arc, OnePas Ellipse, and OnePass Revolution. The Arc variants are currently showcased on this page.
The IDEA lab team requested the following series of illustrations for all 3 prototype variations:
-
Layout images showing and labeling all needle components. These were intended to be used as clear and concise diagrams of the device for funding documents. [Image 2 right]
-
Exploded views showing the general path of motion of the individual parts within each needle [Image 1 right]
-
The general procedure of how to use the OnePass device. This included a series of 9-11 steps outlined in the images below.

Note: I created 3 different series of layout and procedure illustrations for two other OnePass prototype variations (Ellipse and Revolution). Only the Arc Concepts are shown on my portfolio due to IP restrictions. Stay tuned for updated sections.
Additional Illustrations Pending Approval
I created illustrations for three other projects. These include:
-
PITT-SENSE: an "all-in-one" gait and biometrics sensor for biomechanics researchers within Pitt
-
I created flyers for press
-
I also created
-
-
WARMTH: A US Department of Defense proposal for a warming glove to reduce/minimize the effects of frostbite for combat soldiers on the field.
-
I created a more detailed rendering of the prototype device to be used in a grant funding application to the DoD
-
-
PotHole: A smart pot hole filling robot to autodetect and quickly fill pot holes on the highway
-
I created an isometric diagram of the system for future presentations, promotional material, and for visual communication between discussions.
-
Unfortunately, I cannot include these images yet due to IP restrictions (as of January 2026). I am in the process of working with the IDEA lab on when I can share these images publicly. Stay tuned for these updated sections.
