ADDITIONAL HHL PROJECTS

SUMMARY:

This page encompasses several HHL projects I provided lighter contributions to compared to the main projects like Mobius and ShowerSteady, mostly in the form of illustrations/visual communication. All illustrations and renderings were created using Procreate on the iPad Pro with Apple Pencil. Most of these projects have been parked as focus on our small team has been shifted to other projects.

MY CONTRIBUTIONS TO PROJECTS

  RailBot

May 2022 - January 2024
Project Summary

RailBot was novel stair assist device for older adults with reduced mobility, allowing for powered support when ascending/descending stairs. This device was intended to be for older adults who needed light support when climbing stairs, but did not at the physical need for a stairlift yet. It was intended to be easily installable on existing stairways, only requiring an existing handrail and installing a lower secondary rail with a rack-and-pinion system for the motor.

​My primary contributions to this project were creating illustrations and visualizations used in marketing/promotional materials and funding documents. I also supported the installation of the device in the Healthy Home Lab. 

 

I was involved from May 2022 to the project’s shelving in early 2024 due to cost concerns and shifting strategic direction.

  SafeStep

May 2022 - September 2023
Project Summary

SafeStep was a moving handrail system similar to a ski slope tow rope that would provide a gentle pulling force to assist with navigation up and down stairs. It contained a smart-sensing clutch that would automatically activate the motorized pulleys when the cable was grabbed. It was intended to be easily installable on existing stairways, only requiring two pulley units, access to an outlet, and a cable that would be fit to the staircase distance.

My primary contributions to this project included:

  • Creating informative illustrations of people using SafeStep for promotional material, funding documents, and for planned use in feasibility testing.

  • With the HHL Team, I installed and modified several versions of the system. I also wrote and troubleshot code using the Roboteq Motor Controller software (similar to Arduino)

  • Drafting and submitting marketing briefs, pitch decks, and funding proposals for Pitt Innovation funding opportunities.

 

I was involved from May 2022 to the project’s shelving in Fall 2023 due failing validation and shifting in strategic direction.

  StairGuide

May 2022 - November 2022
Project Summary

StairGuide was a concept ergonomic movable handrail system with adjustable grip heights to ensure stability for users with limited dexterity, mimicking natural hand positions for both ascent and descent. 

My primary contributions to this project included:

  • Creating informative illustrations of people using StairGuide for promotional material, funding documents, and for planned use in feasibility testing.
